Routine Water Sampling With Award Winning Consultancy

Legionella water testing is required in environments where existing control measures are suspected to be failing, or where there are vulnerable occupants, such as in hospitals, care homes or schools. It is a highly precise service that calls for expertise and a laboratory to analyse samples and interpret results in accordance with BS 7592.

At EMS Water, we work with UKAS-accredited laboratories to provide exact, reliable results for Legionella water sampling. Our expert in-house team can help you accurately interpret results and understand the implications for your water system, and any next steps to keep you compliant. Legionella sampling frequency will vary from site to site depending on the recommendations made in your Legionella risk assessment.

Legionella Sampling Across All Sectors

With years of experience, we offer accurate sampling for Legionella bacteria in water systems across a range of industries. We provide expert Legionella sampling in healthcare environments where vulnerable occupants are at increased risk of contracting Legionnaire’s disease, as well as Legionella testing in care homes.

For effective Legionella control in schools, we offer lab-backed water sampling and analysis. Additionally, to ensure Legionella control in offices and other commercial environments, our testing helps you identify failures in control schemes and maintain compliance with HSG274.

If Legionella is found in your water system, we can advise on appropriate remedial actions such as disinfection treatment.

What Happens With Your Legionella Sample Results?

If Legionella bacteria is found in your system, we can support you with the remedial process. We can identify and organise effective treatment, including BS 7592-compliant disinfection. Your control measures and risk assessment will also need to be reviewed in accordance with HSG274 guidance, which we can help you with too.

The results of your testing and any remedial actions taken will need to be recorded by the appointed competent person or persons.

Why Legionella Water Sampling is Important

Sampling for Legionella bacteria in water systems is important firstly for protecting building occupants. It also ensures compliance with a range of legislation and guidance, including the Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH, ACOP L8 and HSG274.

It must be conducted in accordance with BS 7592, and samples need to be analysed by an accredited laboratory.

FAQs About Legionella Sampling

How much does Legionella sampling cost?

The cost of Legionella water sampling will vary depending on your exact premises and the scale of your water system. For an accurate quote, just call our team now on 0800 358 1100.

What is water sampling for Legionella?

Water sampling for Legionella is designed to detect the presence of Legionella bacteria within a water system. Samples are taken from different points throughout the system to get a representative spread, and are then analysed under laboratory conditions.

What’s the ideal Legionella sampling frequency?

Legionella sampling is typically only required where control measures are suspected to be failing or where a building has vulnerable occupants, such as healthcare settings or care homes. Where routine sampling is recommended, the ideal frequency will depend on your risk assessment. If you’re unsure whether you need Legionella water testing, just reach out to our team.

Can I order a Legionella sampling kit?

Yes. It is possible to order DIY Legionella sampling kits, but it is not advisable. These kits are not designed in accordance with BS 7592 standards, and the results are not considered proof of legal compliance. To ensure occupant safety and legal compliance, it is always best practice to arrange for professional Legionella sampling with a trusted provider.

What is BS 7592:2022?

BS 7592:2022 is the British Standard code of practice that covers Legionella water sampling, published by the British Standards Institution. It sets out best practices for sampling as well as the circumstances under which sampling is required. It also states the requirement for the use of UKAS-accredited laboratories, like the ones we work with at EMS Water.

What other independent water testing services do you offer?

As well as Legionella water testing, we offer more generalised water hygiene testing, designed to help duty holders determine the safety and potability of water supplies at their properties. These tests are aimed at identifying water hardness, chemical components, microbiology and more. For ACOP L8 compliance, we also provide water temperature monitoring services, supporting your Legionella control scheme implementation.
