EMS Water recently revisited a local Herefordshire School, based just outside Ledbury to undertake a Legionella Risk Assessment review. EMS Water have a team of experienced and qualified legionella risk assessors. For this client we provided a comprehensive legionella risk assessment review and additional independent consultancy services for remedial and monitoring work identified in the legionella risk assessment.
EMS Water had previously visited the school and undertaken a risk assessment in 2021. As part of our ongoing service to clients, we send out advisory reminders via email to advice a risk assessment review is recommended every two years. Industry guidance states that a Legionella Risk Assessment should be reviewed on a regular basis with a minimum recommended industry standard of at least every two years. The document should also be reviewed regularly particularly when there have been changes to the original circumstances such as changes to the water system, changes to the use of building or changes in legislation.
Following the advisory email, the school requested a risk assessment review which was required as significant changes had been made the building layout since the 2021 assessment, so an updated risk assessment was needed to reflect this. EMS provided the quotation for the risk assessment review and booked a site visit for the assessment on the same day for our client.
EMS visited the Herefordshire site to undertake the risk assessment review. All EMS site staff are enhanced DBS checked and this information was provided to the client prior to the visit. EMS Water’s Legionella Risk Assessments adhere to the requirements of British Standard BS 8580-1:2019 for Legionella Risk Assessments and HSE ACOP L8. The assessment was completed that day and the report was prepared and returned to the client within four weeks of the site visit.
The report contained recommendation for some additional L8 monitoring requirements which were currently unsatisfactory. Following consultation with the client EMS provided a quotation the same day for bespoke monitoring services relevant to the site and as outlined in the risk assessment review. These services included monthly sentinel outlet temperature monitoring, quarterly shower head descaling, annual TMV servicing and failsafe checks, annual tank inspections and annual tank cleans
Our client accepted the quotation and services commenced on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis for the individual monitoring services. We also support our client with ongoing support and training services to ensure compliance and safety.
